Quiz guides for students

Slightly different quiz experience since June 2020: Please note that the quiz functions a little differently since the recent upgrade to CloudDeakin. If you would like to run a practice test to see what it looks like before completing an assessed quiz you can do so in the Faculty of Health - Students site. Refer to the Example Quiz.

BEFORE undertaking a quiz or online test please refer to the information below:

  • DO NOT use a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) when undertaking quizzes.
Use a desktop or laptop computer with a fully charged battery or connect to a power source.

  • DO use a reliable internet connection
Make sure you are using a computer with a reliable internet connection to avoid any technical interruptions.

  • DO use Mozilla Firefox as your browser
Mozilla Firefox is the recommended browser for use with CloudDeakin. If you don’t currently have Mozilla Firefox, it can be downloaded from the Deakin Software site.

  • DO take the quiz at full screen
You can zoom in and out if you need to but make sure you expand the browser page to full size.

  • DO try to take the test when technical support is available
We understand that it is not always possible but try to take online tests when technical support is available. See below for the eSolutions (IT) Service Desk’s operating hours.

  • DO run a system check before logging in to CloudDeakin

    1. Open Mozilla Firefox and go to Help with CloudDeakin

    2. From the Set up your Computer tab, click on Run a System Check before you log in.

    3. If your system does not pass all of the checks refer to the Recommended Browsers and Settings Expand the appropriate section for either Windows or Mac users.

    4. If your system still does not pass all of the checks contact the eSolutions (IT) Service Desk

What if something goes wrong?

If you experience technical difficulties while doing a quiz contact the eSolutions (IT) Service Desk immediately and explain exactly what has or hasn’t taken place. They will prompt you for the other pertinent details such as computer type, browser etc. A full screen shot of the issue is often very useful.

Helpful tips for after undertaking a quiz or online test:

The below will show you what each status means in the Attempts column of the Quiz List.

  • In Progress: If you have an attempt still in progress it will show something like this with a red asterisk: 1* / 1
(1 attempt in progress of 1 attempt provided).

  • Completed: If you have submitted an attempt it will show something like this in the Attempts column: 1 / 1
(1 attempt completed of 1 attempt provided).

  • Not Started: If you have not taken an attempt it will show something like this in the Attempts column: 0 / 1
(0 attempts in progress of 1 attempt provided).

  • image

"In Progress" means the quiz has been opened/started but not submitted in full.

Remember, the countdown timer does not stop and will keep going whether or not you are on the quiz page.

  • End date not yet reached / time still on the clock: You can re-enter the quiz, save your answers and submit it yourself.
  • End date not yet reached / no time on the clock: You can re-enter the quiz and submit it yourself. You can't select, save or change anything but you should be able to submit.
  • End date reached: You can't re-enter the quiz. Teaching staff will need to push the quiz through for you but might only do so on request.

  1. Click on the link to the quiz e.g. Example Quiz, just as you did previously.

  2. image

  3. A new screen will load.

  4. If the end date has not yet been reached the Start Quiz button will say Continue Quiz...

  5. image

  6. Complete as above.

  7. If the time limit has been exceeded this will be indicated at the top of the window.

  8. You will still need to submit your attempt in order to undertake another one (where multiple attempts are allowed) or to receive a score on the answers you have saved on this one.

  9. You won't be able to save any more answers or make changes to responses if the time limit is exceeded - only submit.

Viewing scores and attempt details (if released):

For quizzes that contribute to an assessment, results release will usually be delayed until after the end of the quiz period or when all students have completed an attempt. You therefore won't necessarily see a result immediately after submission and will need to come back at a later date.

  1. Click on Assessment then Quizzes in the top navigation bar.

  2. Click on Feedback: On Attempt link. You can also click on the drop-down arrow next to the quiz title and select Submissions from the list that appears.

  3. image

  4. An Attempt score and Overall score should be displayed to the right of the Submission window.

  5. If Attempt details (how you answered etc) are released they will be accessible by clicking on the Attempt link.

  6. Remember that not all units or quizzes will make attempt information available so you may only see your overall score.

  7. image

Only when the results have been released will they be shown.

  1. Click on Assessment then Grades in the top navigation bar.

  2. Your score should appear directly on screen.
