Check a student's quiz attempt

Every now and again a student will report that they have experienced technical difficulties whilst undertaking an online test - for example they may have had problems saving their answers. The below will you how to check this and more.




  1. Click on Assessments and select Quizzes in the top navigation bar.

  2. Click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the quiz title, and select Grade from the list.

  4. You will be taken to the Users tab which is the default view.

  5. Under the Restrict to select All Users.

  6. Enter the student's name in the search field.

  7. Click the magnifying glass icon to initiate the search.

  9. A series of results may be returned if the name matches more than one person. In the example below you can see that:

    • Health 03 has not started or completed attempt (or their attempt has been deleted)
    • Health 04 has started an attempt and the attempt is in progress
    • Health 05 has started and completed an attempt

  1. Click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the quiz title, and select Grade from the list.

  3. Ensure that all restrictions, searches and filters are set show everyone.

  4. Type in the student's name and click the magnifying glass icon to initiate the search.

  6. Click on the attempt 1 link under the student's name.

  8. A new screen will open displaying the student's attempt showing:

    • when the student started the quiz
    • which questions were delivered (the questions and answer options will be shown in the order displayed to the student)
    • how the student answered (if at all)
    • when they saved each response (if at all)
    • if their response was correct or incorrect

  9. If you are after additional information click on the link to the Quizzes Event Log near the top of the attempt window which will show:

    • the order in which actions were taken during the test
    • which questions were saved
    • if they they navigated to the next page
    • if they went out of the quiz and re-entered it at any time
    • if they exceeded the time limit
    • if they chose to 'okay' both of the quiz submission confirmation screens or only the first.

    It is at the end of the Quizzes Event Log that your name will be recorded if you have had to close the test for the student.
