Re-grading quiz questions post delivery
Important If you need to correct or re-grade an automatically graded question type such as an MCQ or T/F please contact Health EDU
This is particularly important if the questions have been delivered in a quiz already attempted by students.
There are a number of critical factors that need to be addressed as well as a few tips for the easy re-grading of all attempts of the question in one go.
Points to note:
- There are a number different reasons a quiz question may need to be re-graded after attempts have been taken, for example:
- the wrong option was marked as correct
- more than one option could reasonably be deemed correct
- the question or options were confusing/poorly written
- the material wasn't covered in class
- the material was taught differently between lecturers/campuses
- While the re-grading process is not onerous it does not negate careful checking of questions pre-delivery especially as it can be very difficult, if not impossible, to make the changes equitable for all students.
- When a question is corrected it needs to be updated in a number of places, namely:
- the quiz
- the question library
- the question file with HEDU and the Unit Chair
- Updating a question does not alter it for attempts already taken - the updated version however will be made available for any future attempts.
- For the the original version of the questions it is possible to see statistics on:
- how many attempts the question appeared in
- how many students responded to the question (not all students will necessarily enter or save a response)
- how many students chose which option.
- For the the original version of the question is possible to re-grade so that:
- any student who selected a particular option or options gains a point
- any student who selected a particular option or options loses a point
- any student who selected a particular option retains a point
- When each question option is re-graded the overall quiz score and the grade item should automatically be updated (and notifcations sent to students where they have turned the option on).
