Building a rubric for use in CloudDeakin

This guide is intended to show you the steps involved in building a rubric so that it is able to be used online for marking assessments in CloudDeakin.

Important  HEDU can now import NEW rubrics directly into CloudDeakin when the rubric is supplied in the appropriate format. There is more information below in Step 1.

Rubric development

The Faculty provides support on good practice in writing rubrics to help you quickly and easily create simple rubrics that are easy for markers and clear to students. If this is a new rubric, or has not been reviewed for 3 years, we encourage you to contact Susie Macfarlane who can review your rubric with you and provide you with exemplars.

Note  If you are re-using a rubric from the previous unit offering, please request for the rubric to be transferred by submitting the Assignment Folder Request Form. If changes are required to the rubric, you can attach a Word copy of the rubric to the request with updates highlighted in yellow.

Download the appropriate rubric template depending on how many levels of achievement your rubric has:

The instructions for completing the template are in the downloaded version. Or watch the video above.

Contact HEDU@deakin.edu.au for alternative templates if your rubric does not fit the above structures.

Visit the basic guidelines to review/check your rubric.

These guidelines are a suggestion only to help ensure your rubric:

  • follows best practice;
  • is consistent with other rubrics in your School and Faculty;
  • is technically correct; and,
  • will function in CloudDeakin.

Important  It is a good idea to get your Course Team Leader and/or Assessment Panel to check the rubric as well to ensure that it is both technically and academically correct.

Complete the Assignment Folder Request Form to provide the rubric to HEDU for processing.

Note  If you have already completed the Assignment Folder Request form, please send the rubric to Health EDU directly for processing.
